The Flat Belly Solution
The Flat Belly Solution is a book that is written by Isabel De Los Rios and is supposed to help you “stop dieting, start eating and start living!”
Since we know as well as anyone how discouraging diets can be, we decided to dig a little deeper into De Los Rios’ theory for losing weight without dieting.
What’s The Hype About the Flat Belly Solution?
The main idea behind De Los Rios’ book is that because we all have different metabolic processes, all we need to do is figure out which “metabolic type” we are. Then we will be able to eat the right foods and do the right exercises and magically lose weight.
The theory behind metabolic typing is an old one, dating back at least 50 years ago to William Donald Kelley who was a dentist in the 1960s.
Kelley was under the impression that he could diagnose his patients with all sorts of diseases and conditions just by looking at their skin, eyes and hair. He even diagnosed someone with lung cancer after just taking a finger stick blood sample.
Unsurprisingly, Kelley was soon found out to be a fraud and was convicted for practicing medicine without a license. What is surprising, however, is that even with Kelley behind bars, the idea of metabolic typing still faded in and out of popular culture even to this day.
Although the methods of typing have gotten a bit more sophisticated in some cases, for instance blood and urine samples are sometimes used, the results have still remained as inconsistent and unreliable.
It is for this reason that we think that the Flat Belly Solution, being just a book and not a high-tech medical lab, can’t accurately define how your metabolism works.
Does It Have Any Redeeming Qualities?
Even if De Los Rios does give some mediocre fitness advice in the Flat Belly Solution, we hardly think that it is worth the price that this weight loss program fetches. Especially since the same words of wisdom can be found online for free.
